ABOUT US
The Miami Metropolitan Archive (MMA) is the brainchild of former
City of Miami City Clerk Walter Foeman. Known for his keen interest
in new technologies and civic engagement, Foeman and his staff began
exploring ways to digitize early City documents with Florida International
University librarians in Spring 2001. Since that time, the project
has expanded to include additional archives and collections beyond
City Clerk's Office holdings with the goal to provide free and open
access to Miami's unique urban history.
Currently, MMA curators are focused on preserving and disseminating
early Miami materials (1896-1956). The archive will always grow,
however, like the municipalities and people it serves.
Additional information on the Project Team, Technical Aspects of digitization, and Research Assistance for citizens, students,
and researchers is provided on site.
Please let us know if you have any comments
on our effort to preserve the rich documentary history of this ever-evolving
and diverse place and space.
