Coral Gables Memory is a digital photo album of images donated to the City of Coral Gables, Florida by Kerdyk Realty. The photographs, which document homes and business structures, were made mainly in the 1940s.
The buildings represented in this image bank were created in the 1920s and 1930s. They show the development of the City of Coral Gables, a planned community that drew from the Garden City and City Beautiful movements of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The architectural styles were in large part inspired by those of the Mediterranean, but include designs inspired by the architecture of other countries as well, giving the community an international flavor.
In 1973 Coral Gables was one of the first cities in Florida to adopt an Historical Resources Ordinance, which created an Historical Resources Board and established a procedure for local landmark designations. This active board continues to designate historic structures and to establish historic districts within the city of Coral Gables, Florida.
